Professional activities include active membership in The Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC), in which Brett serves as a member of the Board of Directors, is the Ethics Liaison to the Board, and is the Program Chair for the 2016 Annual Meeting. He recently chaired the FDCC's Ethics and Professionalism Committee, Management, Economics, E-Commerce and Technology Section, and the Life, Health and Disability Section. Brett is a member of The Florida Bar and the American Bar Association (ABA), and has served in the ABA's Tort and Insurance Practice Section’s Committees on Health and Disability Insurance Law (of which he served as Chair 1999-2000), Life Insurance Law, and Professionals, Officers, and Directors Liability. He is also an active member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI). and Professional Liability Defense Federation.

Brett is a Shareholder in the firm’s Litigation Group and is the firm's General Counsel. Although his practice emphasizes the defense of professional malpractice and life, health, and disability insurance cases, Brett also represents clients involved in other serious personal injury, products liability, toxic tort, and commercial disputes. He is a Certified Circuit Mediator and periodically mediates complex commercial, insurance, professional liability, and personal injury cases.
The mission of the Professional Liability Defense Federation is to enhance the stature and effectiveness of professional liability defense professionals through education, training and the exchange of information.
