How to Prepare for Trial and Trial Tactics

In the first of our Professional Liability Webinar Series, we will delve into how you can effectively prepare for trial. Our speaker will cover:

  • Useful discovery for trial and preparing your office for trial;
  • Voir dire techniques and research on jurors;
  • Preparing the arrogant/talkative/insecure/emotional client for examination;
  • Impeaching adverse witnesses using video depositions and written transcript snippets;
  • Mediating malpractice claims and mediation advocacy techniques; and,
  • Board discipline advocacy and how to train your clients regarding same.

Featured Speakers


Janice L. Gallaher is a paralegal and litigation and trial support specialist with Eckenrode-Maupin, Attorney’s at Law in St. Louis. Janice is an intricate member of the trial preparation team and attends trial to lend support and manage the various technology tools involved in trial presentation. When not in trial, Janice performs background investigations on all parties and witnesses in various case matters and she performs legal research and other case work-up. Janice serves as the support staff liaison and is involved with the on-going training required to assist the support staff with their daily job duties and new procedures and technologies. Janice is a frequent instructor for the Institute for Paralegal Education and National Business Institute, serving as a member of the IPE review Board. Janice is frequently involved in a variety of charitable endeavors. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Quincy University.

Lisa Howe is a Senior Associate with the law firm of Eckenrode-Maupin, Attorney’s at Law in St. Louis, MO. Lisa received a BS in communications with a double minor in sociology and criminal justice in 1993 from Southwest Missouri State University. Lisa received her Juris Doctorate from St. Louis University School of Law in 1996. Lisa was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1996 and she is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Missouri and the State of Illinois. Lisa has been practicing for over 13 years and has first chaired over 10 criminal jury trials and second chaired over 10 civil jury trials. She currently practices as an attorney handling complex civil litigation, including, but not limited to cases involving medical malpractice, workers’ compensation, and personal injury. She also handles criminal cases. She is a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis.
